Kitty Colt is just one of those alpacas that visitors always ask, "Who's that?" She has one of most beautiful heads at the Hacienda--full, dense topknot, large gorgeous eyes, dark muzzle and endearing "butterfly" ears. Breeding for aesthetic beauty is important to us, but we don't overlook an alpaca's other attributes, and Kitty Colt has plenty. She is a sturdy alpaca, large boned and nicely proportioned. We are also impressed with her fleece, as her juvenile histogram came in at 20 microns. She has a lovely staple length and beautiful crimp qualities as well.
We only showed Kitty Colt once (Monterey Pronk, 2007) and she marched right in and took the Blue Ribbon under Jill McCleod. We were proud, but not surprised--Kitty is stunning in every way. We chose to keep her out of the rest of the show season due to illness outbreaks at shows, and then it was time for her to be bred.
We placed Kitty Colt in the Crown Collection for several reasons. First, we think the beautiful heads of both sire and dam will create an absolutely gorgeous offspring. Second, Crescent Moon's Crown Royal can add density to Kitty's fleece, and it is our hope that the cria will have an even more advanced colored fiber than its dam. Last but not least, Kitty Colt is a granddaughter of Ppperuvian Royal Fawn, an industry giant who is the only light fawn ever exported from Don Julio Barreda's ranch at Accoyo, and went on to become the highest selling male in alpaca history in October, 2005. With Royal Fawn in the lineage on the dam's side, and Caligula on the sire's, there already is substantial value in the pedigree of this pairing.
Kitty is due with her first cria June 10, 2009. Her price includes one free re-breed to any of the herdsires on our ranch, with the exception of Icon.
